The National Federation of the Blind of Nevada (NFBNV), an affiliate of the National Federation of the Blind, is an organization that believes in the full capacity of blind people, and has the power, influence, diversity and determination to help transform our dreams into reality. Members work together for a brighter tomorrow by raising expectations so that blind persons can live the life they want.
Who We Are
The National Federation of the Blind of Nevada is a 501(c)(3) nonprofit volunteer membership organization comprised of blind and interested sighted persons of all ages, their families and friends. Our committed local chapters, divisions, committees, programs, and well-trained leaders help newly blind people adjust to vision loss, and promote the full participation and integration of blind people in our communities. We bring our collective experiences together to effect change at the state and national level.
What We Do
Why Become A Member of the National Federation of the Blind of Nevada?
There are so many reasons why every blind individual in Nevada should become a member. Let's review just a few.
Blindness respects no one. When it happens, the affected individual is thrust into an entirely new style of living. With the proper kind of help, that person will make the adjustment and go on towards productive and happy living. The National Federation of the Blind of Nevada provides a positive program of encouragement which emphasizes the respectability of blindness. The organization has more than its share of successful blind persons in all walks of life who have dedicated themselves to promoting the goals of the National Federation of the Blind of Nevada. Many of our members hold full-time jobs, have attained their advanced degrees, and raise their own families independently.
Opportunities for Service
The National Federation of the Blind of Nevada offers each blind person a wonderful opportunity to be of service with emphasis on involvement by the membership. The member may choose to serve on committees, as a chapter or state official, a director or even a national officer or director. The member's opportunity is limited only by their investment of time and energy.
Cash Awards & Scholarships
Cash awards and scholarships may be given at the annual state conventions including home awards and honor awards. We are confident that other cash awards will be offered in the future.
Transportation & Assistance Provided
The National Federation of the Blind of Nevada annually assist members to attend the national convention, this is a superb way to acquaint members with national programs and to put them into contact with other successful blind persons throughout the country, and the state convention, this is a superb way to acquaint members with state programs and to put them into contact with other successful blind persons throughout Nevada. Annual conventions, seminars and other important meetings are regularly scheduled to provide invaluable information and programs for the blind.
